WinterGuard waterproofing underlayment goes at the eaves and valleys where ice and wind-driven water collect, RoofRunner water-resistant underlayment covers the field, and CertainTeed Landmark shingles sit over it with matched starter and hip and ridge cap shingles. Ventilation is part of the same specification, because a sealed roof deck with no intake and exhaust traps heat and moisture underneath it.
Specifying the assembly rather than the shingle is what makes the manufacturer warranty available, and it is the difference between a roof that is new on the surface and one that is new through its depth.
